BOOK #4: SHIFTING GROUND
The Verdant Wilds have always endured through the strength of their scattered tribes, but when a catastrophic quake tears across the realm, the ground itself begins to betray those who call it home. Forests split apart, rivers carve new paths, and entire settlements crumble as the balance of Aeloria begins to fail. Only one hope remains: the Soil Focus must be returned to the Core before the fractures consume the world.
Chosen to bear the Soil Focus to the forgotten village of Elysara, Briar Alderreach sets out on a journey that will test every lesson she has ever learned. Riding Basren, a steadfast mount burdened by grief of his own, Briar struggles to forge the trust they will both need as the quakes grow more violent, the wilderness more unpredictable, and the path to Elysara grows more perilous with every passing day.
But saving Aeloria will demand more than courage. To restore balance, Briar must learn that true stewardship is not simply protecting the land she loves, but guiding it when its power threatens the very lives it was meant to sustain. If she fails, the fractures spreading across Aeloria may become wounds that can never be healed.
Born into her mother's bloodline of the ancient Guardians, Briar Alderreach has known since childhood that she might one day be called to restore the Soil Focus to the Core. Unlike those who came before her, she never questioned the responsibility. Guided by her mother, grandmother, and her aunt, Keeper Naira Graymere, Briar embraced the history of the Great Fracture and dedicated herself to understanding the balance that binds Aeloria together.
Raised among the clans of the Verdant Wilds, Briar serves as a Pathkeeper for Thornveil, caring for the forests, maintaining the trails that connect distant settlements, restoring areas damaged by storms, and teaching younger generations to respect the land that sustains them. Gifted with a quiet connection to the soil, she can sense subtle changes beneath her feet, encourage roots to stabilize weakened ground, and recognize when the balance of nature has begun to shift. Her abilities are never used to dominate the land, but to work alongside it, reflecting the values instilled in her by generations of her family.
Warm, observant, and deeply compassionate, Briar possesses a quiet confidence that puts others at ease. She listens before she speaks, remembers every story she is told, and believes that even the smallest act of care can shape the future. Before every journey, her grandmother gives her a small pouch filled with seeds gathered from across the Verdant Wilds. Wherever Briar leaves the world better than she found it, she plants one, a quiet promise that life will continue long after she has gone.
When catastrophe strikes and the balance of Aeloria begins to unravel, Briar must discover that preserving the world she loves requires more than listening to the land. It demands the courage to guide it, even when doing so means asking the soil to follow her will rather than its own.
